كيف يغدو الصدف تحفاً فنية!   تحمل هذه الحرفة القديمة بين ثناياها جزءا جوهريا من الثقافة والفن الإسلامي كانت قد اشتهرت بشكل خاص في مدينة بيت لحم، مهد المسيح، ويقال أنها وصلت بيت لحم عبر الحجاج الإيطاليين في القرن الخامس عشر. وبالنظر إلى مكانة المنطقة الدينية، فقد كانت دائما نقطة التقاء للعديد من الثقافات، وهو ما يفسر رصيد المنطقة العامر من الحرف والفنون.   بالنسبة للأصداف المستخدمة في هذه الحرفة، فهي خليط من الصدف الفلسطيني مع أنواع أخرى مستوردة من أوروبا وأستراليا، وتتم صناعة القطع ف هذه الحرفة عبر رص شظايا الصدف جنباً إلى جنب، ما يجعلها تبدو لامعة وكأنها قشور...
